JIM PITTMAN: ARTIST'S STATEMENT: 'PUEBLO' |
![]() |
Using acrylic on paper, I wash, glaze, scratch, and lift the paint in a push-pull method until I evoke the image of painted walls, cliff dwellings, fractured stone, and the marks of man. Using symbols and gesture, I seek to reveal images and textures that evoke other times and places. |
CAROLE BARNES:
ARTIST'S STATEMENT: 'COLLAGE' My work is based on my intrigue with mythology, symbols and ancient times and places. I layer, scratch, lift off and evolve the images until the painting communicates with my feelings. The symbols become a mysterious language melded with color - buried and then emerging to the surface again. |

MARY WILBANKS:
ARTIST'S STATEMENT: 'GUARDIANS' My work is a reflection of who I am. I work intuitively from chaos to a certain order. I collage, pour, paint, and de-collage in order to keep the stage open for as long as possible. My sources are rock formations and desert dwelling places of ancient civilizations. In layering the collage, I am recreating the process of erosion and physically working backward and forward in time and space. |

'MOTHER AND CHILD' For French Smith, the process of painting presents the possibility of going beyond oneself- breaking the barrier thaat our own nature imposes. Color and testure tacitly express an environment for the eye and mind to contemplate. Many layers and glazes of oil, plaster and wax resin are applied to create sumptuous texture. French Smith lives and works in Taos. |
'OPENING LINES' |
|
ARTIST'S STATEMENT: My work is a feminine response to the passion I feel for nature and a need to honor this true core of creativity. The inner place is a very important part of my paintings. There is mystery in the caves and crevices of landscapes. We are all part of the dark and the light beauty of the earth.. |
