Lorrie Bortner

Lorrie was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She holds an MFA in painting, MA in education, and MSCI and BSCI in interdisciplinary studies. She has enjoyed painting since a child.

She has been  practicing the Transcendental Meditation program since 1971 and finds that her experience of the unboundedness of meditation influences her work.

Lorrie has been involved in Aztec dance in Taos, New Mexico, since 1998.

Traveling brings inspiration to her art and she has traveled in India, Europe, Mexico, U.S.A., and Canada. Her interest in supporting woman has inspired her to start Xochiquetzal, weavings of the Americas, focusing on preserving traditional textile design by woman in Mexico. Lorrie is a member of Rainbow Artists an inter-cultural woman's art group.

Her work has been exhibited in group shows in: New Mexico, Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, California, Pennsylvania and Florida.  She has created installations and murals. Lorrie has also coordinated museum educational events, has been involved with arts in the schools, and public art projects.

"I love to paint. My interest lies in using a lively palette and strong forms to create images from my heart and intuition. Many of the images hold symbolic meaning. A sense of humor is important in my life and art as well."
