University of New Mexico/Taos Campus

The University of New Mexico/Taos Campus is a new campus built in Fall 1996. Master planning, done with the Department of Facility Planning on the main campus in Albuquerque, calls for the addition of 8 more buildings...the main pedestrial street, shown in the middle photograph, will connect these buildings. It will serve as the main focusing and organizational element in the plan. Plazas of different sizes and shapes will open off of this street, and buildings, with their differing shapes and masses, will enliven the experience of being on the campus. The first two buildings, now built, will set the architectural tone for future development. Contemporary in their conception, they reflect a concern for historic and cultural precedents through materials, color, and individual building elements e.g. portals, columns, corbels, vigas, etc.
