Fang, The Movie
a.k.a.
The Canyon Stops At Midnight

Chapter - 30

The Conclusion

We have had quite an adventure but we also realized that the movie and this story were finally over.  As we were packing to return to New York, Fang announced that Lotte-Madonna-Fish would ride with us back to Findorado Springs to catch our respective planes.  For some reason, travel preparation took much less time than before and we were soon, ready.

As we gathered for one more last look at Midnight, Sam remembered earlier questions, still left unanswered.

"Fang, my slippery friend, you still haven't told us how you got the money from Malcomb."

He paused and then asked, "... and why, in-blazes, did you decide to make a Western."

Sam said, "Malcomb told me about that last conference he had with you ... but he didn't tell me what you said to him. Now I'm more curious than ever. It's hard to believe that you could come up with an 'idea' important enough to pry the 'big bucks' out of Malcomb's pockets -- and past those Think Tank people."

"What! pray tell, did you say to him," Sam exclaimed ?

"Ahh...that became easy," said Fang. "For several days (back at the 'dig') I had been thinking about the generations that passed since the time of the pyramids. I was also trying to figure out how to come up with something to help the Findians. The only resource I seemed to have at the time, was Malcomb ... but I didn't know how to approach him. I knew he wasn't about to spring for anything I'd ask."

Fang continued," Suddenly I remembered that Malcomb had a young son ...a very bright lad... who was being groomed to take over Malcomb's Corporate interests when Malcomb retired. At first, I thought it might be wise to wait until Malcomb was out of the picture then go to Malcomb's son for help -- but of course, this would take much time and 'time' is what we didn't have."

Fang continued, "Then early one morning--just as I walked out of my tent--I happened to looked up to see the brillant Egyptian Sun coming over the horizon and the thought came to me, 'Why not groom Malcomb's next generation -- his son -- for the Presidency of the United States."

"The more I thought about 'it,' the more I realized that this was 'The challange' that Malcomb could not refuse. It was too grand of scale for him to 'kick off' ... and then I knew that I had him," finished Fang.

"Ok," said Sam. "Now how about the 'Western." Where did that come from?" asked Sam, again.

"Now that was a little more difficult. The whole idea for a 'shoot'um up-Western' sorts grew..." said Fang.

"At first, I only wanted to make a movie documenting the Findians and their dances." said Fang.

Then he thought for a moment, "By the way, Sam, did you know that there are few studies of Indian dances. At best you might see a few snap shots of a dance -- but of all the Indian tribes there are few written records about their dances. These dances are a tradition passed on by practice ... not by writting them down."

Fang continued, "... almost immediately I realised that the original movie-concept would becoming more of a project than I had anticipated. The costs, alone, exceeded even Forbes's 'seed money',"

"Wo ... you say, 'Seed Money?' ," said Sam, "Forbes never deals in just, 'seed money'"

"Never-the-less, I soon saw that I needed an on-going account."

Fang paused to think, "... but more important, I needed on-going talent to complete this job. The solution turned out to be quite simple, really."

"I decided to make a commercial film ... an adventure story ... in fact, a 'Western' adventure. But to create a 'money maker', I still needed a talent who could provide the audience," reasoned Fang.

Fang continued, "Again, Ol' Forbes had the solution, but didn't know it."

"One evening, I was helping to-do dishes and found, quite by accident, that Lotte-Madonna-Fish, was currently under contract to Forbes Enterprises ... ," said Fang

"... Now even Forbes didn't know this ... this little 'tidbit' of information, I accidentally picked up from one of Lotte's most loyal fans ... none other than, Forbes' cook, herself," exclaimed Fang, Hah!"

"The income from this commercial film will be used to endow a chair for Findian cultural ... and out of this will come many talents who will produce more Findian 'gold' than ever lay beneath the waters of this place called, Midnight ..."

"Think twice," said, Fang ... and a small smile crossed his lips.

As we got into the car, Sam had one more question.

"By the way, Fang, what does the word, 'Pueblo' mean?"

At this Fang looked up-with surprise. "Why I thought you new," he said, "Its a Spanish word, really."

He continued, "'Pueblo'means, Us,  .. you know ... the 'The People'."
