The only woman inducted in the Taos Society of Artists, she was nominated for membership in 1924.
Catharine was born in Westmoreland County Virginia on September 13, 1868. She did not attend a traditional college but instead went to the Cooper Union School in New York. She later enrolled in the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC.
It was in Washington, DC where she established herself as a portrait painter of the Washington society.
