At Chamisa Mesa we provide a highly focused intellectual program designed
to give regular students the best possible preparation for college, in a
wholesome, intimate and safe environment. That clear goal has provided the
direction for all our efforts.
1. The content of the courses all our students take matches what the colleges
want their entering freshmen to know about literature, history, mathematics,
science, economics, politics and culture. We present this information in
ways that are relevant to the real world, and to our students lives.
2. Our students constantly practice and receive personal coaching in essay
writing, analytical reading, focused listening, note-taking, discussion,
research, and speaking.
3. We practice kindness, courtesy, respect, hard work, and good cheer as
our most basic values.
4. We are small enough (48 students - 7 teachers) to be sure that everyone
is understood, valued, personally instructed, safe, and individually nurtured
to become their best.
5. We believe in learning mainly by doing, not by listening - students are
always actively engaged in practice and work, as teachers are coaching -
no boredom or wasted time. We support our high expectations with careful,
individualized instruction.
6. The faculty are well educated, have strong real-world experiences, are
devoted to the art of teaching, and are each genuinely interested in the
full range of subjects we teach.
