Vistit Horace's Volcano, Ruapehu

I was born 1924 in Plaistow E13. West Ham a County Boroughof Essex at that time. It is now part of Thatcher's reorganised London namely Newham. I wince every time I hear that name. Sounds like something from the butchers'.

Although I attended school regularly my education did not start till after I left school at the age of fourteen. I was always reading. I was 15 at the out break of WW2. In 1943 the day before my 19th birthday I was in the RAF. Trained as an Aircraftsman Engines. Four years and two months and two days (Of undetected crime, as one Flight Sergeant put it) later I marched out of the demob. centre into civvy street. I became an Accounting machine engineer for a firm called Power SAMAS. A French/English consortium set up originally for the Prudential Insurance Company in Holborn. In my spare time attended night school studing for a London University Social Science Diploma. I was a full member of the Plaistow YMCA Red Triangle Club. Which meant I was a committed Christian. It was that time Churchill and others started the 'Cold War'. I was then working for Briggs Motor Bodies Dagenham. When that firm started to make war products I took redundancy instead. I joined the Merchant Navy to see what other parts of the world looked like. I plied between London and New Zealand with the New Zealand Shipping Company. Hence my association with Pitcairn. I settled in NZ in 1955. The last 25 years of my working life was nursing in Nelson Public Hospital. Retired in 1985. My Hobbies and interests were, in Nelson, restoring old stationary engines and farm equipment. Recording on tape for the Nelson Historic Society. and helping to set up the SeniorNet Nelson group. Since living in Auckland I have helped in an advisory capacity five Auckland SeniorNet groups get off the ground. I am now very involve with the west Auckland SeniorNet group teaching two classes a week. I am a member of the NZ Microcomputer Club here in Auckland.

I should think that is enough of me for anybody. :)
