John Lone slated to star in the film, "The Hero
Zheng Cheng Gong." (2000)
Japanese, Taiwanese and U.S. production companies are
working together on a big budget project, The Hero Zheng Cheng Gong.
Recently, the director Wang Tong and film production manager Lee You Ning
flew to Japan to discuss script details. All three countries have
already invested $10 million, making the film one of the biggest of the
year.
On this trip to Japan, Lee You Ning and Wang Tong are also working on rewriting another new script. Lee You Ning says that this movie is not going to be the dull historical film everyone thought it would. The main focus of the film will be on Zheng Cheng Gong's life story and his relationships.
From Japan, the request came for John Lone to star in the lead role of Zheng Cheng Gong. The female lead character, Yi Sa Er, will be chosen by Taiwan producers. The character has a messy affair with Zheng Cheng Gong and Taiwan is insisting on using a Taiwanese actress for the role.
Lee You Ning, along with discussing the script, also mentioned
that the special effects production company, "Mini Box," will be participating
in the project. The Hero Zheng Cheng Gong will contain 30%-40%
special effects, which will be one focus of the film. Shooting is
scheduled to begin next summer.
