-- The Great MacFin --
(An English Crumpet Western)

ACT III

$SCENE II
[at The main ranch house]

[Enter LADY MacFin and a Cowboy]

LADY MacFin
Is Langstorm gone from my ranch?

Cowboy
Yes M'am, but will return again to-night.

LADY MacFin
Tell the Owner that I would like to talk to him.

Cowboy
Yes, M'am.

[Exit]

LADY MacFin
Well it's all done, and I'm not very happy aboot it: I wish it was like it was, ... than to live like *this*.

[Enter MacFin]

How now, m'Dear! How come I never see you? Whatever will be. will be, and what tis done is done.

MacFin
We're not done.

We have only scotch'd the snake, not kill't it: We are only out of danger as long as things don't fall apart.

... but We will still eat our meals in fear and sleep badly until we, to gain our peace, have sent to peace those lives that know our mind.

Peaceful lies the Owner in his grave; After life's fitful fever he sleeps well; Treason has done it's worst: and neither steel, nor poison, Can touch him further.

LADY MacFin
O Come on, Dear husband, you're still look'un good; Be bright and jovial among your guests to-night.

MacFin
So shall I, m'love; and so should you be bright and jovial with *our* Langstorm; Give him your eye and tongue: And make our faces masks of our hearts, to Disguise what they are.

LADY MacFin
You must leave this.

MacFin
Full of scorpions is m'mind, dear wife! while I know that Langstorm and Bud still live!

LADY MacFin
... But not for eternity!

MacFin
Yes, There's still comfort to be made; they are assailable; So be happy!

Before the bat hath flown his coop, a sharp rattler with his drowsy sting, this night, shall be done A deed of dreadful note.

LADY MacFin
What's to be done?

MacFin
What you don't know won't hurt you, m'little chick, Till the deed is struck.

Comes now the night, Scarfing up this pitiful day; and Good things begin to droop and drowse; While night's black agents to their preys do rouse. I know you don't understand m'words but hold thee still; Things bad begun become strong themselves,by ill. So, prithee, go with me.

[They All Git Out]
